Rather than promote a single book at a time, Stone & Kimball utilize McCarter’s considerable talents to advertise their "Green Tree Library,” a select choice of highly touted writings. Except for the fact that paper comes from wood pulp, no literary reference can be linked to this Japanese woodblock inspired glen. McCarter studied with Eakins in Pennsylvania and with Toulouse-Lautrec in Paris. His works appeared for Scribner’s, Century and Harper’s as well.
