Obsolete Currency
Philadelphia, PA, The (Third) Bank of the United States, $1000 Post Note, Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
Haxby-US-3-G100. One of the most famous American notes due to the countless copies of serial number 8894 plaguing the banknote hobby for decades. This genuine example is printed on the proper white paper with the interest bearing back stamps bleeding through slightly to the face. Both necessary characteristics for proper integrity. These 1840 dated Post Notes are remnants of the failed Bank of the United States and the depression that hit American commerce in that era. The large format and bold deigns indicated great financial strength, but the bank refused the notes for payment and the bank failed. An important piece of American financial history and a choice example, serial 8855, only 39 ticks away from that dreaded (but famous) copy. An essential note for any American currency collection.
