Partly-printed Document Signed 'Jas Duane' as Mayor of New York City, March 1, 1785, New York, 6.5' x 8,' Fine. Duane signs a bond for one George Williams, stating that Williams 'has obtained a Licence to keep an Inn or Tavern for retailing strong Liquors in his Dwelling-House... until the first Day of March next' and that Williams will be indebted to the people of the state for fifty pounds if he shall keep 'a disorderly Inn or Tavern, or suffer or permit any Cock-fighting or Gaming to be practised with the Inn or Tavern....' Right and left margins are uneven, affecting nothing, and there are some tape repairs on the back. DuaneÕs large signature is signed in brown ink and followed by a paraph.
