1796 Draped Bust Dollar. Large date, small letters. This is a handsome Very Fine example of the scarcer draped bust, small eagle motif, a coin that exhibits medium to deep gray patina in the fields and especially around the margins, lessening to lighter "rubbed silver" look on the high points, a classic trait of fresh, original, uncleaned specimens (now becoming very difficult to locate). Centers are a trifle soft, as always for this variety. There is a tiny mark on the neck below the ear. The reverse displays a lumpish die break at the I of AMERICA and is diagnostic of this die.
