1920-D Liberty Walking Half Dollar. This is a delightful Gem example which is almost entirely struck on the main devices. In his guide to the series, Bruce Fox, an expert on the Walking Liberty half dollars, commented: "Records show ample dies were available, but low striking pressures and/or inadequate die spacing produced weaker than average strikes. This was typical of the Denver Mint up until the late thirties." The surfaces have wonderful satiny luster with speckled golden-brown toning. Overall, this example has an intense degree of aesthetic appeal. It is the single finest example of the date certified by NGC. PCGS has graded just six of them, but that total may consist of a couple of resubmissions. This is one of the few times we have handled an MS66 grade example of this date. NGC Population: 1 in 66, 0 finer (10/05). (#6581)
