8” x 9,” bright, fresh, and clean. A nearly identical document is pictured on Page 240 of Dr. Douglas Ball’s “Comprehensive Catalog and History of Confederate Bonds” along with the following caption: “During the period when the British bondholders’ committee was active, those depositing Confederate bonds with the committee received certificates that would allow them to retrieve their bonds at a future time.” Following the Civil War, committees of bondholders were established in an attempt to force the United States Government to honor the bonds issued by the Confederacy. The bonds were purchased at deep discounts by speculators, who amassed large quantities of them. The bonds were deposited with various committees, but none were ever honored by the U.S. government.”
