1916 Liberty Walking Half Dollar. The first design of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar (1916) has small, rather spiky stars on the flag and with only a faint line separating the star field from the field of stripes. The red stripes are not clearly set off from the white ones by any sort of border line. The ground line from the date to the sun is softly defined and rounded at the top while the base of ray 8 from the sun is much too close to the base of ray 7. Many of these features were modified in later years. The present example has the typical velvet-texture luster underneath medium gray patina acquired without hindrance or problems over the years. A truly fresh, vibrant appearing, uncleaned gem! (#6566)
