1905-O Barber Half Dollar. The 1905-O is a widely acknowledged O-mint rarity among Barber half collectors. This is apparent at once from its mintage of only 505,000 pieces, most of which were poorly struck. Those that survive today are usually found in less-than-Uncirculated condition. Any coin that is better than MS64 is too expensive for most collectors, so that this mid-range specimen is just right.
Beyond its obvious absolute rarity, this is simply a visually pleasing coin. If one were to cover the mintmark this piece could easily pass for an S-mint. The surface is pastel with deeper shades of golden brown or amber color along the margin.
