1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar. 6 over 5. Three overdate varieties this year, O-101 and 103 have 5 berries in the branch, while O-102 has a sixth berry in lower relief between the claw and lowest inner leaf. Frosty pale color with original toning. Some light signs of handling and scattered tiny marks are present in the fields, none worth describing, while the overall aesthetic appeal is very nice indeed. Better than average detail than many of this issue, with the usual bluntness at the obverse stars but decent central detail. Seemingly, the strike on these overdates is random, so while the eagle's breast is nicely defined, the clouds beneath OF (opposite the highest relief of Liberty's bust) are weaker. The overdate becomes readily apparent at the top of the 6 with a loupe. A very nice example of this interesting variety. Medium gray patina around the periphery on both sides yields to lighter, frostier surfaces elsewhere on which can only be described as a very choice specimen. Worth an extra premium for the fresh, uncleaned quality. (#6077)
