1912 Barber Quarter Dollar. Lovely original toning covers both sides. Mirror-fresh luster surrounds the satiny devices. And everywhere crystal clarity is seen at the portrait and on the reverse, here it is probably that the dies were spaced exactly the right distance to prevent any weak metal flow in the key areas. Accounts vary but the best information is that Proofs were given two blows by the specially made dies. Some say that Proofs were struck on a special hydraulic press, while others say that by the time the Barber coinage made its appearance, the mint's electrically operated coining presses were up to the task of making these majestic Proofs. In all, there were 700 Proof quarter struck in 1912. (#5698)
