1910 Barber Quarter Dollar. A gorgeously toned gem displaying iridescent hues with strong contrast between fields and devices. The strength of the cameo effect, when added to the striking color, affords a joyous presentation for the viewer and prospective bidder.
Coins are often referred to by their design, not their creator. The Mercury dime, the Kennedy half dollar, the Washington quarter, the Lincoln cent and almost all other coins give no clues, except for initials hidden somewhere on the device, to the designer's identity. So when new collectors hear about "Barber Coinage" for the first time, they must bring tonsorial imagery to mind. Only four U.S. coin designs are known by their designer's names. Christian Gobrecht and George T. Morgan are famous for their silver dollars. Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the famous sculptor, designed the magnificent 20th Century twenty dollar gold coin. Charles Barber, however, achieved similar fame due more to the controversies of his office than for the beauty of his designs. Barber quarters were struck every year from 1892 to 1916, while Proofs encompassed these same dates except for 1916. (#5696)
