THE BLACK HOLE (1979) - Maximilian Maquette

A maquette of Maximilian from the production of Gary Nelson's 1979 sci-fi film The Black Hole. The hovering robot Maximilian confronted the crew of the USS Palomino when they boarded the USS Cygnus, before it was ordered to stand down by Dr Hans Reinhardt (Maximilian Schell). Maximilian was designed by Disney Imagineer George McGinnis.

This 1:4 scale maquette was produced as a reference model for refining colouration and shape prior to building full-size versions. It is made of fibreglass and resin and painted varying shades of red, with grey detailing. The maquette perfectly captures the angular shape and sinister bearing of the full-scale model. Its intricate detailing includes bolts, panels, hinges and dual lift fans.

The maquette is displayed on a custom-made black plastic stand. It has minor wear from production use, including fissures in the paintwork, and it shows signs of repairs having been made. Dimensions: 61 cm x 34 cm x 24 cm (24" x 13 1/2" x 9 1/2")
