THE BLACK HOLE (1979) - B.O.B. Filming Miniature

A filming miniature of B.O.B. from Gary Nelson's 1979 sci-fi film The Black Hole. The robot was designed by Disney Imagineer George McGinnis and voiced by Slim Pickens (uncredited), its acronym standing for "Bio-sanitation Battalion". Over the years, B.O.B. had been bullied and damaged by the other robots on the USS Cygnus. When the crew of the USS Palomino arrived, B.O.B. befriended a similar robot called V.I.N.CENT (voiced by Roddy McDowall).

This filming miniature is carefully crafted to resemble the full-scale model. Made of resin, it is expertly painted red, grey and black. It features a barrel-shaped torso, arm and leg appendages, a spherical head and a flat headpiece. Bulb casing is depicted around the torso, and the robot's familiar despondent eyes are painted on the head. The name "B.O.B. LF 23" is stencilled in white at the front.

The piece is presented on a display stand with the film's title at the base and a pole inserted into the same aperture that was used by the production team for filming. The miniature is intentionally distressed to reflect the years of abuse that B.O.B. suffered, as well as the damage inflicted by Dr Hans Reinhardt's (Maximilian Schell) other robots during the film's climax. This includes exposed wiring, dented casing and a missing leg. The lot exhibits additional signs of wear from production use and age, including scuff marks and loss of paint, but it remains in good overall condition. Dimensions: 42 cm x 28 cm x 20 cm (16 1/2" x 11" x 8")
