1924-D Buffalo Nickel. The surfaces are highly lustrous and each side has a light coating of nickel-gray patina that swirls and alternates between lighter and darker hues. Smooth-edged devices throughout, including centers and the bison's head, rather than a keen, knife-edge strike. This is typical of the D-mint issues of the 1920s where it seems the dies weren't set up in the press with full pressure. This may have been in order to increase die life. (#3952)
