1885 Nickel Three Cents. The 1885 three-cent nickel is an unusually rare coin in the absolute sense with only 4,290 pieces struck, of which all but 1,000 coins were Proofs. This is a sharply made example whose sterling quality puts it among the finest business strikes known. In fact, only seven other MS66 pieces have been certified by PCGS (and six by NGC) with two finer (both PCGS coins). The surfaces are smoothly frosted with nickel-bright patina having strong striking definition throughout as well. (#3753)
