¥ Georgia Currency
Remarkable 1766 'Savannah Court-House' Note

1766, £1, 'Savannah Court-House' Issue, Choice Crisp Uncirculated Remainder.
A remainder issue, having one bold brown signature at lower left, having been printed in Red & Black with an exceptional, vivid vignette of the Savannah Courthouse building and landscape at lower right. This note has four large margins, somewhat jumbo at left, the text is printed so sharp and strong, there is still significant printing plate embossing of the text into the paper. Once split in three places near center and left quadrant, with expert repair with archival paper on the blank verso. The printing is extraordinarily bold and vivid with eye-popping Red & Black seeming to jump off the clean laid paper. This single denomination represents the entire issue as illustrated in Eric NewmanÕs classic work, The Early Paper Money of America, where a fully issued example is plated being in approximately Very Good or better quality. An extraordinary highlight to our sale and likely to bring a record price for an early Georgia issue due to its remarkable eye appeal and vibrancy. Serious collectors should endeavor to inspect this item for full appreciation, prior to the sale date. (The other example we offered of this issue, in similar condition, was in our July 12, 1997 sale, lot #171, where it sold for $4,300.)
