Bound in 19 volumes–one of the most complete sets to be presented in any of our sales.
A rare collection of Le Rire, the famous humorous and satirical weekly, to which Lautrec contributed drawings, mostly in color, over a period of two-and-a-half years. As you’d expect from this, there are many Lautrec illustrations, but finishing in a very close second is Cappiello, with many of his fine caricatures, including his first published work–sketches of Puccini and Novelli–in the July 2, 1898, issue. Other artists represented include some of the top posterists of the period: Hermann-Paul, Jossot, LÈandre, Forain, Willette, Valloton, Metivet, Roedel, Faivre, Steinlen and Roubille.
