¥ Connecticut Currency
Scarce 'William Imlay' United States Loan Form

April 16, 1793, United States Loan Office Form, Connecticut, Anderson CT-56, Very Choice Crisp Extremely Fine or better.
Rarity-5 (Rare). Bright, fresh and having great amounts of eye appeal, this partially printed document is boldly signed in rich brown ink 'William Imlay' and issued for $122.83. Printed by Francis Bailey on fine quality hand made laid paper, bearing a 'SANDY RUN' watermark. This type of Loan Office certificate is related directly to the transference of the nationÕs capitol from Philadelphia to Washington, DC under what was known as the 'Assumption Act' (in order to persuade the South to assume a disproportionately larger share of the Revolutionary War debt, the government agreed to relocate the capitol to a Southern State). This example has a virtually invisible thin slit-cancel and has a magnificent, huge right margin that nearly doubles the actual width of this document. Rarely offered, this is an important and interesting piece of United States fiscal history and one of the finest quality examples we have encountered.
