EDWARD A. WILSON (1886-?)
612. Baltimore and Ohio Railroad/The Centenary Pageant. 1927.
26 1/4 x 39 7/8 in./66.7 x 101.2 cm
Lathan Litho, Long Island City, NY
Cond A-/Slight creases, largely in bottom text area.
For their one-hundredth anniversary of railroading, the Baltimore & Ohio–at that time one of the biggest businesses in the city of Baltimore–staged a two-week celebration. Wilson takes a full three panels to recreate the Fourth of July Grand Procession that accompanied the laying of the "First Stone of the Rail Road” in 1828, one panel for each thousand of the original participants. No locomotives are depicted here (in opposition to an anonymous work created for the same event–see PAI-XXV, 124); an interesting choice, but one totally in line with the pre-train days the poster commemorates.
