WILLIAMSON
610. Arrow Shirts.

When World War I taught men that collared shirts were more comfortable than ones with detachable collars, the Arrow shirt company adapted and prospered. And though Williamson’s sanforized poster boys are a tad less glamorous than Leyendecker’s, they’re very much in keeping with the better-known artist’s tradition of selling the shirt by selling the man. The text mentions that Arrow makes shirts to fit all kinds of male figure, these two tennis players, decked out in their whites and listening to their coach’s advice with relaxed intensity, appear to be a similarly athletic variety. It must be the textual price contrast–undetectable to the naked eye–that’s being tastefully explored here.
