Cond A-/Slight tears and stains at edges. Mounted on board.
Repetition was Welsh’s lithographic bread and butter. Most obviously he uses it here with a quartet of gulls to give his design a bit of motion. But more subtly, take a look at the whitecaps and the pattern of the horizon wavelength–even the shadow of his slender artist seems to echo the pattern in the surf-battered rocks. All of this secondary, of course, to the central figure of the series–a strong, independent, emancipated woman relishing her free time courtesy of Pullman.
