1857 Flying Eagle Cent. Beautiful brownish tan color with coruscating mint frost that swings and pitches around the surface on both sides as the coin is angled under a light. What is most noteworthy here is the sharp detail on the eagle, whose eye is complete, upper wing feathers show, and tail has nice separation between the feathers as well. Even the upper part of the wreath shows its leaves and cotton bolls, which is unusual for an area of the coin that is typically found softly struck. A gem, in other words, and something to fit right at home in a U.S. Type set. (#2016)
