OASIS - Noel Gallagher's 1963 Martin D-28E Guitar

A rare original 1963 Martin D-28E guitar used and owned by Noel Gallagher during his time in the British band Oasis. Gallagher initially bought this guitar in Denmark Street London, and it was his go-to guitar for recording demos and writing.

C. F. Martin & Company (known as Martin) are one of the leading manufacturers of acoustic guitars and is known for developing the dreadnought body style. In the late 1950s, the company delved into the electric guitar market, keeping their traditional instruments but adding two DeArmond pickups to three existing models generating the 00-18E, D-18E and D-28E. Martin stopped producing this electric series in 1963 due to costs and problems with the sound, meaning a limited number were created, making them highly desirable. The series gained significant exposure when Kurt Cobain played a D-18E during Nirvana's memorable 1993 MTV Unplugged concert. It is believed Gallagher was inspired to purchase this guitar after seeing Cobain's performance.

The Martin D-28E consists of a mahogany neck and a body made of a natural top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides. It features a faux tortoiseshell pickguard, two chrome DeArmond pickups, two volume knobs, two tone knobs and a three-way switch. The model "D-28E" and serial number "193282" are etched onto the underside of the neck block inside the soundhole. This guitar is dated to the last year of production, still has its original electronics, and has never been modified except for a refretting.

The guitar comes with a black leather protective case lined in dark blue velvet. The lot comes with a black sports mesh "Oasis, Stage" vest and a box of D'Addario guitar strings with a handwritten label reading "Noel Gallagher's Original Strings." The body exhibits patches of wear, scratching on the back, and minor marks on the control knobs. There is notable wear to the case exterior, and the guitar comes with a New Kings Road Vintage Guitar Emporium letter of provenance hand signed by Noel's guitar tech Jason Rhodes. Dimensions (guitar): 104 cm x 40 cm x 14 cm (41" x 15 3/4" x 5 1/2")
