Glass
Beautiful 'Staffordshire' Sugarpot

c. 1820s, English Staffordshire Sugarpot with 'Heraldic Eagle on Urn' Transfer Print, Choice Extremely Fine.
5.5' long and 4' wide along top rim, 4.5' high, decorative sugarpot with luscious dark blue transfer prints of heraldic eagles on a series of urns, arranged around both sides of the pot. Floral stands and foliage complete the design. MakerÕs mark can be found on the bottom: an impressed oval snowflake design with a blue 'L' printed in blue. Inside rim of the pot has some small chips and discoloration, but these do not detract from the beauty of this piece. Comes complete with peaked lid--also covered with lovely blue floral transfer prints.
During the early 19th century, potters and craftsmen of Staffordshire, England, created earthenware just like this--covered with beautiful patriotic transfer prints--to export to American collectors and patriots.
