Oh the minstrelesque political incorrectness of it all. Based on the 1911 Jack London novel of the same name, this offbeat yarn features a strong female character named Joan, who roams the Pacific in her own schooner manned with a Polynesian crew. She arrives on one of the Solomon Islands, where plantation owner David is losing some of his native workers to a deadly plague known as "Blackwater Fever,” and is, in fact, ill himself. Joan puts her crew to work in defending David against a native uprising. As the title implies, all forms of peril ensue, with a fully-recovered David in the end saving Joan as true love rules the day. Appearing as one of the native leaders is Duke Kahanamoku, a Hawaiian surfing champ who won several swimming gold medals in the 1912 Olympics.
