Glass
“Lafayette at Franklin’s Tomb” Sugar Bowl

c. 1824, “Lafayette at Franklin’s Tomb” Printed Sugar Bowl, Choice Very Fine.
6.5” long, 4..5” high sugar bowl and lid is covered with deep blue scene, repeated on both sides, of General Lafayette reclining by an urn-capped tomb that has the name “FRANKLIN” printed on it. Floral designs adorn the sides of the bowl and peaked lid itself. Examples of the “Lafayette at Franklin’s Tomb” series are identified on pp. 17, 22-23, and 148 of “Historical Staffordshire,” 2nd Edition (2000), by Jeffrey B. Snyder. The series was manufactured by Enoch Wood & Sons, and each example is quite historic and intriguing. This sugar bowl is cracked on one side, around the Lafayette figure, and is chipped along the inside rim. Sold “as is."
