From the deep purple shadows of tall pines, we’re given a breathtaking view of Pralognan and the sun-drenched Vanoise massif mountain majesty for the Paris-Lyon-MediterranÈe railway who once more opt for natural splendor over locomotional bragging rights. The famous massif lies between the valleys of the Arc and the IsËre; it was proclaimed a national park in 1963. Though dotted with charming villages and lovely forests, the Vanoise Massif nonetheless remains a high mountain area: 107 summits exceed 9,900 feet and the glaciers cover a total surface of thirty-four square miles. Soubie is best known for movie posters, but he produced some lovely travel posters as well.
