Autographs
Extensive Lot of Over 100 Civil War Era Autographs

(CIVIL WAR AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION).
From the estate of Mrs. C.B. Thomson and G.S. Chapin, a collection of some seventeen 9' x 7.5' sheets with over 100 autographs from during and after the Civil War, including many military names from the Civil War. Practically all the autographs are cut from letters and pasted onto sheets of worn, age-toned paper. Properly matched with photos and background information, these could be displayed more effectively. Included is a magazine, 'The American Portrait Gallery with Biographical Sketches,' c. 1877, by J.C. Buttre, Publisher, NY, 24 pages. Some of the signatories were associated with Fort Adelaide, the 413 Light Infantry, and Winchester College. A few have identifying rank or titles, but most are simply signatures in ink on various pieces of cut paper. An interesting collection, in need of research and proper presentation! (100+ autographs)
