The formalistic frame in the Greek tradition–along with the snob appeal of the contributing writer–reminds us that Pall Mall is the periodical for the cultured reader. Skinner’s demi-nude artistic harbinger would appear to have been the poster bait for the entire 1895 run of the magazine, with the marbled space at right changing to reflect the specific month’s top billed offering(see PAI-IX, 473 & DFP-I, 113).
