At times, even the most ingenious designer’s imagination can come perilously close to running amok when inspiration takes control. Sepo, however, has channeled his muse with succinct perfection, setting his doomed little fish free to swim amidst placid blue waters, completely unaware of his association with the cutlery which eventually will play a major role in his downfall. An amazingly simple, wry design for the Amieux Brothers line of tinned seafood. Born near Ravenna, Pozzati grew up in Bologna where he studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts, then took up painting. In 1917, he joined the “Maga” agency of Giussepe Magagnoli, ex-director of Vercasson in Paris. (Along with its stable of Italian artists, “Maga” had the Italian contracts of Mauzan and Cappiello, the chief influence on Pozzati’s early style.) He moved to Paris in 1920 and was soon exhibiting widely and winning recognition. In 1923, he adopted the name Sepo. This is the larger format.
