Roubille’s monocled dandy, strutting about in his diamond studded suit, would catch anyone’s eye instantly–including any potential muggers within a three-mile radius of the pending crime scene. Thus the message: "Wear only costume diamonds–more beautiful than the real thing,” could easily carry the subtext " . . . and safer.” Roubille, one of the great caricaturists of his day, contributed frequently to such humor magazines as Le Rire, Le Sourire and Cocorico.
