1881-CC $10 Liberty. According to Doug Winter's Condition Census ranking, the 1881-CC (mintage 24,015) should be a lower Condition Census piece at this level. However, the main grading services have certified a fair number approaching 100 pieces in various levels of Mint State quality. We agree with others that this may be a suspiciously high number and, of course, it is unknown just how many coins this number actually represents due to resubmittals. All the same, for the grade it is a well struck piece that has shimmering, lustrous orange gold surfaces with a little reddish tint in places suggesting full originality and no trace of having been dipped. Very attractive and desirable in this state of preservation. (#8692)
