The springtime urge to meander present in the artist’s name is reflected in his design for the State Railway and their service to the French Atlantic Coast’s ocean islands. This chain off Western France consists primarily of Yeu, RÈ, OlÈron, Aix and, as seen here, Noirmoutier, an island connected to the mainland by a causeway covered at high tide. The view of the multicolored sails as seen through the Bois de la Chaize spawns thoughts that are at once reminiscent of times spent in the company of toy boats set to drift on the memories of youth gone by and the more sophisticated pleasures best appreciated by those with a bit more experience under their belts.
