Though in reality the massive solidity of its citadel and the onion-domed bell tower of the collegiate church dominates the remarkable Meuse Valley setting of Dinant, it can only serve as an insignificant backdrop to the work of the Dinanderies, whose brass craftsmanship dominates every decorative element of this Pequet exposition poster with a near Midas touch. Dinant’s name is the origin of the French word dinanderie, the art of brass smelting and beating which has been practiced there since the 12th century. Another far more palatable specialty awaits visitors to Dinant as well: couques, the honey cakes baked in decoratively carved wooden molds.
