<b>CHRISTOPHER “KIT” CARSON, American Trapper, Scout, and Indian Agent.</b>
Cut Signature “C Carson” on a small piece of white paper (3” x 1”), professionally matted and framed with an image of Carson and an article about him to an overall size of 21.5” x 22.5,” Choice Extremely Fine. Carson’s signature is nice and sharp, signed in black ink above another illegible ink notation. Carson ran away from Madison County, Kentucky in 1826, at the age of 18, to join the Santa Fé expedition. He joined an expedition to California (1829-31), and was a trapper from 1831-42. He served as a guide for John Frémont’s expeditions in 1842, 1843, and 1845. After the battle of San Pascual on December 6, 1846, when Kearny’s force was surrounded, he crawled at night through enemy troops to summon aid from San Diego. He was appointed Indian agent to the Utes from 1853-61, and raised and commanded the 1st New Mexico Volunteers against Indians during the Civil War.
