1860-D $1 Gold Indian. Again, minor problems only on this otherwise very scarce gold dollar from the Dahlonega mint. Issues continued right up until the time the first Southern states seceeded from the union in December 1860 upon the election of Abraham Lincoln. Because war broke out early in 1861, most D-mint gold dollars were at once either hoarded, exported, or (eventually) melted, accounting for the great scarcity of specimens in any condition. (#7556)
