ALPHONSE MORA
470. Lier. ca. 1930.
24 1/2 x 36 in./62.4 x 91.5 cm
Lith. Delko, Anvers
Cond B+/Unobtrusive folds.
Tourists, writers and artists alike have been attracted to the atmosphere of Lier, the town that lies on the edge of both Antwerp and the Brabant regions with its walks, historical buildings and old facades. Remarkably, Lier still maintains its 16th-century walls, which have been turned into esplanades and flanked with a canal. All of this impressive architecture has been relegated to flat black silhouette status by Mora–and rightly so–to bring the Zimmertornen astronomical clock to the fore. On the front of the tower, this astonishing timepiece made by the great clock and watch maker, Zimmer of Lier, has eleven different dials and two seperate spheres–the earth and the moon. The astronomical studio inside the tower has sixty-two different dials showing the lunar cycles, the tides, the zodiac and various cosmic phenomena. A wonderful representative poster for a spectacular achievement.
