WILLIAM FREDERIC ELMES
447. A Hit–Or A Miss. 1927.

Mather & Co., Chicago
Cond A.
Although the Mather messages were inspirational, there was such an earnest squareness about them that it must have been hard for the designers to avoid a certain routine, pedestrian quality in their images. It’s to Elmes’ credit that he manages to accompany each homily with a strong, dynamic concept, as is the case with the safari-cum-work ethic assertion seen here.
