War-Dated Autograph Letter Signed, as Governor, 1 page, State of Connecticut Executive Department letterhead with a vignette of the State Seal, Hartford, November 5, 1861; to Colonel J.B. Brown, “Q.M.G.” Very Fine. Some minor paper loss at top margin where torn, assumedly, from a file. In full: “Will you give the bearer Sergeant E. E. Gruss [?] of Co. G 11 Regiment a pass over Rail Roads to Thompson & to return as he goes on recruiting business.”

Connecticut’s 11th Regiment Infantry was organized at Hartford from October 24 to November 14, 1861. It fought at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Petersburg, Richmond, Cold Harbor and lost, to battle and disease, about one third of its men.
