TOP GUN (1986) - Hollywood's Helmet

Hollywood's helmet from Tony Scott's Top Gun. Hollywood wore his helmet when he was shot down by six MiGs while on deployment in a crisis situation to rescue the SS Layton. The rescue and other flight sequences were achieved with real Navy pilots operating real fighter jets. This helmet is believed to have been worn by one of the real pilots portraying Hollywood.

This fibreglass pilot's helmet originated from a member of the production crew. It is painted blue and affixed with five yellow, blue, white, and silver-colour star insignia stickers. The helmet features black vinyl "HOLLYWOOD" lettering, a tinted plastic visor, black leatherette padding, a black nylon chin strap, an olive green silicone oxygen mask with an attached microphone comms unit secured to the helmet with olive green straps, and two metal tags labelled "Flight Suits, LTD. El Cajon, California." The interior is hand-marked "Top Gun," "Cougar #1," and "52," suggesting that this helmet was intended to be Cougar's (John Stockwell) at one point. It exhibits various signs of wear, including grime, tears and scuffs to the stickers, damaged paint throughout, and the visor does not slide down.

Contains electronics; see electronics notice in the Buyer's Guide.
