<b>CW¥U¥Letters</b><hr><b>Three Items Regarding Assistant Surgeon Daniel S. Hardenburg (or Hardenbergh) of the 56th N.Y. Volunteers.</b>
1. 2-1/3 page letter dated Nov. 2, 1863, Goshen [NY], from a family member to Hardenburg, informing him that a dispatch had come from the Governor stating that if he came to Albany for an examination, he would be commissioned as Assistant Surgeon of the 56th Regiment.
2. Notarized document dated August 3, 1864, that Hardenbergh [sic] had applied for a leave of absence because of 'Tonsillitis,' making him unable to travel and unfit for duty for eight days.
3. Printed notice, with accompanying envelope, from the State of New York, Surgeon GeneralÕs Office, inviting Surgeons and Assistant Surgeons of N..Y. Volunteer Regiments to send to the Department their 'photograph Carte de Visite or Vignette.'
