Partly-printed Document Signed, 'B.N. Clements,' Chief of Appointment Bureau, October 3, 1862, Richmond, Va., 9.5' x 7.75', Extremely Fine. On pale blue paper, engraved 'Confederate States of America./ Post Office Department./ Appointment Bureau.' The form notice (No. 6) is accomplished in manuscript and directed to Mr. Thos J. McKie, 'The Postmaster General has appointed you Postmaster at Woodlawn district of Edgefield State of S.C.' In order to be authorized, the appointee is required to execute a bond and take an oath before a magistrate. One tiny spot in right margin, light toning, a few small tape remnants on verso, one small edge tear, and normal folds. This extremely rare Confederate document is ideal for framing and display.
