Brimford desires me to tell you he has no authority to purchase Powder, that Col. Wadsworth [Decius Wadsworth, U.S. Commissary of Ordnance] is the only person to whom an application can be made. I spoke to him upon the subject, he told me he wanted powder at the Eastward & would act when he arrived in N. York.... The Governor has Decatur’s case in his mind & will not let it escape him. He desires me to inform you your presence is necessary in this part of the Country.... P.S. Pray send me a bottle of snuff....” Toned page, repaired tear at left, small paper label affixed at bottom, split halfway along center fold.
