PIERRE FIX-MASSEAU (1905–1994)
378. Loterie Nationale.
44 7/8 x 60 5/8 in./114 x 154 cm
Jean Laurance, Paris
Cond B/Slight tears at creases.
Over the course of a career that spanned more than 50 years, Fix-Masseau produced 150 posters, becoming most associated with the Art Deco visions of power he created for the French railways. Looking at him from that perspective would be shortchanging the artist however, as his distinctive style was appropriate for every client’s individual message. Case in point, this announcement for the French National Lottery. Seeing as the proceedings were inseparably intertwined with an equestrian event, Fix-Masseau includes the jockeys and their mounts in such a manner to make them integral while retaining the primary focus for the loot-spewing cornucopia.
