Lot 37: Aaron Burr Signed Document 1829
<b>Autographs</b><hr><b>AARON BURR.</b>
Partly-printed Document Signed, 'A. Burr,' February 11, 1829, New York, 2.5' x 6.25,' Choice Very Fine. A 'Manhattan Company' check, payable to himself 'AB' for $43. A small attractive vignette is in the upper left corner. Slash cancellations and spindle hole do not touch BurrÕs signature, which has a small ink smudge, but is firmly signed in dark brown ink. This check was written seven years before BurrÕs death. After his political career had ended and his treasonous schemes were foiled, he resided in Europe for some five years, returning to New York in 1812, where he practiced law. He soon suffered the loss of his only grandson, followed by the drowning of his brilliant and adored daughter, Theodosia. At the age of 78, Burr married, then divorced, a wealthy French widow. He died in 1836.
