Contrasted nicely off the gunmetal beast of iron rail transport, this Art Deco beauty couldn’t seem more simultaneously alien and at home in her surroundings. The combination of towering power and fashionable lilt make for an ideal fit in this Travel poster for the German cause, that clues us in with no uncertain terms that Germany "wants to see you.” Born on Sumatra, Engelhard returned to his parents’ native Germany where he studied in Munich with Franz von Stuck. Settling there and becoming a busy posterist and illustrator, he contributed to Simplicissimus and all the leading fashion magazines of this period. This is the English version.
