11' x 6' large, colorful Stevensgraph silk, featuring a central portrait of George Washington surrounded by a green laurel wreath, below a heraldic eagle. Two U.S. flags flank WashingtonÕs portrait, and a detailed gray and black depiction of the main building, a locomotive, steamship, and manufactured and agricultural goods fill the bottom portion of the silk. Red, yellow, and blue lettering declare: 'CENTENNIAL - INDEPENDENCE - UNITED-STATES / 1776 1876 / MEMENTO / SOUVENIR' (along the bottom); and, in black lettering: 'PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL - EXHIBITION' (up top). Toned, cream-colored silk with minor staining.
