<b>“Dr. Hitchcock’s Discourse on the Death of General Washington,” Fine.</b>
32 page-pamphlet, printed by John Carter, Jr., Providence, 1800, 8” x 5.25”. By Enos Hitchcock, Member of the Society of the Cincinnati. The discourse was delivered February 22, 1800, in the Benevolent Congregational Church in Providence. A contemporary note on the cover states, “Presented by order of the Standing Comm. to Colonel Archibald Cary.” Cary was a Revolutionary statesman from Virginia. He signed the Associations of 1769, 1770, 1774, was on the Committee of Correspondence of 1773, sat in all the Virginian Revolutionary conventions, and as chairman of the Committee of the Whole, read Virginia’s Resolution of Independence to the convention. Toned; paper loss on back page affects a few words. minor paper loss at lower right corner of front cover. Pages are toned, with a few stains, not affecting legibility. There is a faint stamp on the cover from a library in Newport, R.I. Evans 37627.
