For an exhibition of drawings and sketches of legal subjects at the Palais de Justice in Antwerp, “Combaz presents a lawyer in a fury over one of the caricatures in the exhibition. The impression of intensity is conveyed not only through the stylized grimace but through the compression of the figure by the black border that cuts off part of his cap, as well as through the electrifying effect of his hands outlined in white, and the red background, perhaps symbolically colored to express rage” (Brussels, p. 69). Combaz practiced law for a year, but left the bar to devote his life to art.
