Colonial America
Early Hunting Sword Used Throughout the American Colonies

c.1690, English Hunting Sword, Very Fine.
These short, light swords were little more than long knives with sword hilts, but were very popular with both army and naval officers. This is one of the more commonly encountered patterns, pieces of which have been found in archaeological contexts throughout the American Colonies. Although its 14' curved blade is rough-edged and heavily pitted, it still bears the famous "Man-in-the-Moon" marking of the Solingen bladesmiths. 5'-long horn handle with brass butt and 'D' guard. Some splitting to the horn and the guard is loose, but overall quite nice item.
